What goes on in Radio…

April 30th, 2009 | By jane-wqel in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I know many of you wonder what happens when we aren’t on the air. Are we busy looking for things to talk about with all of you? Are we talking to co-workers about radio issues? Or are we doing things that we thank God there isn’t a webcam in the studio!!!

A great clip from Free Radio which is on VH1 Thursday nights at 11pm. If you want to see what the world of radio is really like, watch this show….this is our lives….LOL!!

Hump Day

April 29th, 2009 | By jane-wqel in Uncategorized | No Comments »

I always thought this was a strange expression to describe Wedndesday. Considering the other meaning that most people think of when you say “hump day”…..LOL!! But you are getting over the hump in the work week and heading to the downhill slide towards the weekend. Anyway, I began to wonder what word you could use instead of hump so I checked it out on the thesaurus and well here are the words I found….
bump….mound….ridge….swell….protrusion….elevation
Which none of those really sound right when you add “day” after them, “mound day”…”ridge day”…”swell day”….see what I mean. That means we will be saying hump day ’til someone comes up with a better phrase to desribe the middle of the week and teens will snicker when we say “hump day” and we will roll our eyes like we never snickered when we were younger….LOL!

Enjoy this very wacky clip from Letterman! And have a great Hump Day!!

There are times when you just want to go back to being a kid and a teenager.  Well thanks to many websites you can view old TV shows, Movies and even commercials.

I took a trip back in time with some commercials.  Now when these came out in the 70’s we all thought they were so cool, but now you just laugh at how funny they are and especially the clothes….LOL!!  Enjoy!

Gonna Miss Ya Maude!

April 26th, 2009 | By jane-wqel in Uncategorized | No Comments »

Actress Bea Arthur passed away Saturday at the age of 86 of cancer at home.  This was very sad news to me, I’ve been a fan since Maude was on the air in the 70’s.  I loved that character, a strong independent woman who was proud of who she was as a person and a beautiful sexy woman.  I sometimes think I am so independent and strong because I watched Maude. Also Maude was one of the ground breaking shows in the 70’s tackling subjects such as abortion, drug use, seeking counseling and other taboo topics of the times.

I then became a fan of  The Golden Girls with Bea Arthur, Betty White, Rue McClanahan, and Estelle Getty, another show with strong women who loved life to the fullest.

Bea Arthur was an accomplished actress also on stage and did numerous plays with rave reviews.  She will be missed but will live on throught reruns.  Enjoy the clips below from Maude.

The Mind of a 5 Year Old

April 24th, 2009 | By jane-wqel in Uncategorized | No Comments »

That is something that I deal with on a daily basis, with my daughter Emily.   There are times when she is 5 and other times when I look at her and wonder if she is really 16…LOL!!

She got excited a couple of weeks ago about something, I can’t remember what, but when I told her she goes…”Mama that is sweet, just sweet!”   LOL!!  I just laughed!  It amazes me sometimes what her vocabulary has become, and it is entertaining at times.

Sometime I watch her play especially if she is playing with her dolls and listen to her talk.  She has grown up conversations with the dolls, they will be talking about going out to dinner and what groceries they will need at the store and if they can afford to get certain things.  It makes me aware that she is listening to conversations I have and understands them and retains the information.   And that is something I have found out, my daughter never forgets anything….I mean anything!

She can seem so grown up one  minute and the next be just a 5 year old wanting to go outside and play.  And when she is coloring or working on letters and numbers she has this very serious look on her face and I wonder what is happening in the mind of my wonderful 5 year old.

I know Emily learns things from me every day, but I seem to be learning from her also.  What a wonderful blessing to be a parent.   My Mom always said it’s the best job in the world!

My Mom, me and Emily….3 generations and still learning!

Pet Peeves

April 21st, 2009 | By jane-wqel in Uncategorized | No Comments »

We all have them and I’ve been thinking about them as of late, mainly because they have been happening!

My biggest one is using a turn signal.  I mean how much energy does it take to flip the turn signal on??  It isn’t rocket science and you barely have to move your hand.  It is the law to use one when making a turn, so why do so many people just ignore their turn signals??

Waiting for a parking space and blocking the whole lane….what is up with that?  Drive around and find another place to park, the walking is good for your heart!  But people will sit there and wait for someone close to leave a spot….please what makes you so important??

Got a pet peeve?  Click on the comments and let me know what they are, love to hear from you!

Inspiration

April 15th, 2009 | By jane-wqel in Uncategorized | 2 Comments »

That is what I would call Michael J Fox.  He is living with Parkinson’s Disease but he doesn’t let it stop him living a happy busy life.  His sense of humor is great as you will see with the clip below from David Letterman.  I have been a fan of his since Family Ties.  He has a strong marriage with Tracy Pollan and a beautiful family and they all deal with Michael’s disease and stand by him and stand together. And I am thrilled that he is acting again with his role on Rescue Me. I hope that someday there will be a cure for Parkinson’s Disease and people will listen to what Michael has to say about the research that can be done to help him and others with the disease.

And enjoy Michael J Fox in Family Ties!

For some reason over the weekend I had the theme song to the show The Banana Splits running in my head. It was a show I watched as a kid. Well I decided to find it on youtube and it was there to my delight.

I began listening to the theme song and my daughter wanted to watch it too….LOL!! She loved The Banana Splits! She thought they were funny. And it brought back many great memories of me watching it as a kid and to be able to share it with her was awesome. And yes it is a bit dorky but the show was fun and isn’t that what being a kid is all about, having fun!

There was also a show in The Banana Splits called Danger Island with a very young Jan Michael Vincent and yes I had a huge crush on him….LOL!!

So enjoy the clips. The Banana Splits was on for 2 years from 1968 to 1970 and brought me and many other kids a lot of fun!
